SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - Mayor Greg Davis, who announced in January that he was not seeking a fifth term, has done an about-face and filed for re-election as an Independent.
Davis filed Friday and had indicated a day earlier that he was considering a change of heart.
The 47-year-old politician has been mayor of Mississippi's third largest city for 16 years and is the longest-serving mayor in the city's 33-year history.
He says he decided to seek a record fifth term because he had unfinished business. Specifically, he says he wants to see the city build a senior citizen activity center and is angry that the Board of Aldermen voted this week against issuing a $6.5 million bond to make the center a reality.
