In most states it is required that you have training courses and a permit to carry a gun. Why does MS get a free ride? Why is it such a BIG deal to take a course. It's usually $30 and takes a few hours....to ensure proper handling of a weapon and target practice! You'd think people would be encouraging the safety training courses instead of "shooting" them down! Take a safety course, give a county a little bit more money and carry your gun where you choose!!

This illegal, immoral, and dysfunctional proposal will not have any positive effect on crime or safety in the park. It is simply a scheme by criminals to disarm peaceful, law-abiding people. As most Americans know, the 2nd amendment prohibits the govt from regulating our weapons. This proposal to require people to have a permit affects only the good guys, the bad guys won't bother with a permit. Thus it will increase crime and reduce safety in the parks. Imagine a killer thinking to enter a school to kill students or teachers, but then thinking he can't do it because of the gun ban. Folks amaze me in their rush to judgement.This "proposed" ordinance only mirrors state law.It WILL NOT restrict legal concealed carry permit holders any more than presently so.It will give the Sheriff's Department more and quicker methods to enforce EXISTING laws especially pretaining to SHOOTING in Parks and Greenways. So one must have the "proper credentials" to be robbed and accosted? What's next, requiring the robbers and accosters to have a city permit to ply their trade in city parks?
