BARTLETT, TN (abc24.com) - Another squatter was hauled out of an expensive Mid-South home. A Bartlett man is in jail after he was caught taking a shower in a home owned by a bank.

The home has four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, a pool house and more than an acre of land. According to a neighbor, Christopher Chalmers' parents were evicted from the home but Chalmers remained a frequent visitor to the bank-owned property.

"I saw him last year in June, I reported to Bartlett that the yard was a mess. I met the code enforcement over there and his car was there," the neighbor said.

He hadn't been since, until Sunday when he left the house in handcuffs.

"I think it was about 5 or 6 officers, it was a suspicious situation; I saw them carry shot guns up the driveway."

The call came to police when the couple buying the house was doing a final walk-through of the property. A K-9 found him in the back of a closet. According to police, he resisted arrest.

"He was in there taking a shower," the neighbor said. "They found his clothes - he'd been there, it looks like for a long time."

Neighbors followed the east Memphis squatter situation closely, when a Moorish American claimed a $3 million bank-owned property.

"I'd seen that but it didn't dawn on me, this house might have a sitter. People go in and out of this house since it was vacated - they fixed it up, they spent a lot of money on it."

Another for sale sign sits in the yard across the street, another home neighbors never thought of until now.

"We'll keep an eye on that house for sure. It's been for sale for quite some time."

The buyers still plan to keep the house.

Chalmers is charged with vandalism under $500, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest. He could also face civil charges from the property owner.

My husband is retired Navy and we moved for 20 years, living in several very large cities and places that had their own crime. I have never lived anywhere like this where the community seems to think they have rights they don't have. Never have I seen so many people in one area demanding things they have no right to and if they aren't given them, they shoot you. They have an attitude of entitlement without earning it. No where does it say just because your relatives were enslaved do you deserve someone elses, money, property, belongings or anything else.I see no Jews stealing, shooting, squatting or other illegal activities because of how their ancestors were murdered and terrorized during the Holocaust. I am not saying there aren't good people here, but frankly the good people are not standing up against their own race and making them accountable for their atrocious behavior. Before you go off on my racist opinion, just look at the squatters. None of the homes had whites, asians, mexicans, middle eastern or any other race except african american. Instead of standing up and saying we are not going to stand for people of our race to besmurch it by committing crime. Instead the pastors, parents, and relatives hide those who commit the crimes, announce their poor little boy would do no such thing, pastors yell racism. Until you stand up and say this has got to quit and now, there will always be racism here and rightly so.

Damn, you mean this brotha' was claiming to be a "sovereign citizen"?? He must have needed to park his 2013 Camaro/Charger in a super nice and heated garage for awhile so the repo man couldn't hunt him down. Dammit boy, this same crap seems to only happen in Memphis. If I've said it once, I will keep saying this...all you "sovereign citizens" bring your candy and/or monkey-asses across the state line into Mississippi and we'll show you the meaning of "sovereign". 'nuff said.....
