MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A hotel manager is looking at thousands in repairs after a customer destroyed a room to 'let the demons out.'
Memphis police were called to the Airport Inn on the 1400-block of East Brooks Road around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 16. When they arrived, the desk clerk told them the hotel manager was chasing after a customer down the street. Officers found the manager and 22-year-old Mabry Guenther a short distance away from the hotel.
The manger told police that he saw Guenther leaving his room earlier that morning and noticed water pouring out of the doorway. When he confronted Guenther about the flooding, he told the manager "don't even worry about it," and kept walking, according to the police affidavit. The manager went into the room to inspect the damage and stated the sheetrock in the bathroom had been destroyed and the microwave oven and several broken pieces of furniture had been piled up in the tub. Guenther also ripped a security camera out of the ceiling before walking away, the manager said.
When police questioned Guenther about the damage he said "demons were there and the ghosts told him he had to let them out," the document states.
Mabry Guenther was arrested and charged with Vandalism over $10,000. He is being held at the Shelby County Jail on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 25.
