MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis police have arrested a suspect for shooting towards a crowd of people and killing an innocent bystander.

Officers were called to the 1300-block of Bryant Street just after 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 25. When they arrived they found a 29-year-old female victim, later identified as Candice Malone, in the driveway with a gunshot wound to her neck. The victim was transported to The MED where she was pronounced dead.

According to the police affidavit, witnesses stated two suspects were shooting at two other men running past a crowd of people when Malone was shot while she was sitting on the porch.

Investigators identified 32-year-old Carlos Hilson as a suspect. He was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder and two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder. Hilson is being held without bond at the Shelby County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court November 5.

Its murder regardless of the degree. He was intentionally shooting a firearm into the crowd to kill someone. Manslaughter would be the woman dying over an accidental discharge of the firearm or the shooter purposely shooting at a lock attempting to get it off a door and the bullet ricocheting off killing her.

Glad to hear the charge is murder and not manslaugher. Never understood why sometimes an incident like this is charged as manslaugher, but I've seen it before. Just because you killed someone you didnt intend to, you still took a life. Hope some scumbag lawyer doesnt get the charges reduced.
