DESOTO CO., MS (abc24.com) - A traffic stop in DeSoto County led to a trip to the hospital after a convicted felon bit a deputy, fled, and was taken down by a K-9 officer.
The incident happened during a traffic stop on Lamar at the Marshall County line on April 17. During the stop, an occupant in the car became combative, ended up biting the deputy and ran from the vehicle.
The deputy released his K-9 officer, who took the suspect down.
An off-duty Southaven officer was passing by and stopped to assist the DeSoto deputy.
The suspect, who turned out to be a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, was charged with assault on the deputy and K-9 officer.
Both the deputy and suspect were taken to Baptist DeSoto to be treated for bite wounds.
