MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - After a failed attempt at robbing a Raleigh business, a suspect succeeded in carjacking a woman and her baby at a gas station. Then he also succeeded in getting arrested.
According to the police affidavit, a male suspect with his head wrapped in a towel walked in to the Family Dollar store on the 2900-block of Coleman Road on Monday, July 16, and demanded money from the store clerks. He left empty-handed, and walked over to the gas station next door at the corner of Coleman and Stage Road.
The suspect jumped into the gold 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix of a woman with her 13-month-old son as they were about to get gas. As the suspect started to drive away, the woman jumped out of the car with her son and called police.
Memphis police later found the stolen vehicle in northeast Memphis near Sycamore View Road and Macon Road and arrested the driver, 52-year-old Timothy Crawford. Both the carjacking victim and the store clerks positively identified Crawford.
Timothy Crawford is charged with Attempted Robbery and Carjacking. He is being held at the Shelby County Jail on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 20.
