NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP, abc24.com) - A House panel has killed a bill seeking to tax strippers to pay for a reduction in the state tax on gold coins, bullion and investment income.

The judiciary subcommittee on Wednesday sent the measure sponsored by Republican Rep. Joe Carr of Lascassas to a study committee after the Legislature adjourns for the year.

Carr said the increased tax on strippers and strip clubs reflects the negative effect they have on property prices in neighborhoods where they are located.

Republican Rep. Jon Lundberg of Bristol questioned the need for reducing the tax on collectors' items like gold coins. Supporters claimed the measure would bring more coin shows to the state.
