MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Cold and flu season is still in full force and as we travel for the holidays, that increases our chances of getting sick. More than 350 Walgreens stores across the U.S. have Take Care Clinics that are affordable and are open extended hours in case you get the sniffles during the holidays.
First-time Take Care patient, Sofie Howley, says, “It’s hard to get a doctor's appointment on short notice when you're not feeling well. Plus, with two kids, if I can run out really quickly, it helps.”
Tara Mabon, Walgreens Nurse Practitioner, says, “Strep throat doesn't happen Monday through Friday from 8 to 5. It happens on weekends also. So, it's been an awesome blessing for the community.”
A recent study by Rand Corp shows that patients spend 30-40 percent less at a Take Care Clinic than being treated at the doctor’s office for the same illness. Patients spend around 80 percent less than what an Emergency Room visit would cost.
The walk-in clinic can treat treat patients with common illnesses such as colds, flu, upper respiratory disease, and ear infection.
There are eleven Walgreens stores in the Mid-South that have Take Care Clinics. There are nine located in Memphis, one in Horn Lake and one in Olive Branch. All locations are open Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day.
