Taxpayers May Chip In $2M for Chisca Hotel Renovation

It will cost nearly $20 million to fix and reopen the historic Chisca Hotel. Members of the Memphis City Council are also talking about the city throwing in $2 million to help renovate the hotel, but with all the talk about the city's budget woes, is it a wise investment?

Turn it into "affordable apartments". Right. In other words, it will be run-down again and crime-ridden within a year after it opens. More of our tax money down the drain!

Harold, how is $2 million next year in a line item called capital improvements not $2 million we need to save aginst our obvious budget shortfalls? What about the rest of the city's needs for "capital improvements"? Remember how great Peabody Place was going to be?
