MCS Teacher Charged With Statutory Rape

MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A Memphis City Schools teacher has been charged with rape because of a sexual relationship she had with a student who was living with her.

An affidavit says April Wade, a Spanish teacher at Sheffield High School, has been charged with statutory rape by an authority figure after police learned of the relationship she was having with a 17-year-old boy.

On Friday, October 21, 2011, the victim told police that he had been living with Wade for 10 or 11 months and during that time they were engaged in a sexual relationship.

When she was arrested, Wade did give a statement to police saying the victim lived with her and shared a bed with her, but she claims they have only kissed.

Wade is among a group of 7 educators in Shelby County that have been charged with rape since 2010.

I notice a black Female teacher suspended without pay while under investigation. If this black woman would have been of a different race or sex they would have suspened her with pay-while under an investigation.. let be fair. Parent also need to be charge for not knowing the where about leave her alone he enjoyed every moment what every the situation might be. This child wasn't rape or kept with out his permission or parent permission. They did not come and visit him at school or anything else that a concern parent should have done...

Well, she'll be teaching spanish to her new students and the 17 year old need to evaluated as well. Teachers that fall victim to this sometime end up losing everything they've worked for, on top of a getting a criminal record. I don't understand it !!!

I have to agree with libertyfirst on this one. Having been a teenaged boy before, I can assure you that any boy who has sex with their hot Spanish teacher is NOT a victim, unless the teacher was ugly or gave him VD. However, if it was a male teacher and a female student, I would have serious problems with it. I know that isn't fair, but it is just how life is. It simply isn't possible for an attractive woman to sexually "take advantage" of a sexually mature male(unless she gives him VD).

The government calling consensual sex between two willing people that are old enough to understand the situation and the consequences rape INSULTS those women that have been truly RAPED, often brutally and definitely without consent. But that's ok, because it makes it look like the government thugs are protecting the sheep, when the exact opposite is true....

I would like to know what neighborhood did she reside in and how is it possible none of her neighbors noticed a teenager coming and going for a year? Where are her parents? I would like to know did she have any friends who visited her on a daily or weekly basis or did they ever go out. We as parents have GOT to do a better job of raising our children. I hope she is never allowed to teach again. A career just thrown away. WOW

MCS lives in a state of confusion. Teachers raping students and MCS destroying good teachers with layoffs. Don't feel sorry for the student, had a good thing got mad and squealed like the pig he was. She on the other hand, needs serious mental help. MCs why don't you look at those you let go, you might find some decent folk still in the system

Where were the parents of this 17 year old? Was he missing for a year? These sex crimes and acts of street violence are directly attributable to lack of parenting.
