MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A 17-year-old boy was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital after he was hit crossing the street in the Whitehaven area Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred just before 7:30 a.m. at E Shelby Drive and Linwood, just west of Elvis Presley Blvd, on March 21.

Officers report that a vehicle was making a left turn from Linwood onto eastbound Shelby Drive as the teen was crossing Shelby Drive to the south side of the street. The driver pulled into the center turn lane to merge with traffic on Shelby Drive when she hit the teen.

The driver, 66-year-old Carolyn Taylor, told officers the sun was in her eyes and she was not aware of the boy until she hit him. The victim stated he was looking east down Shelby Drive as he crossed the street and did not see the vehicle.

The victim was transported to Le Bonheur in non-critical condition for possible back injuries. Taylor was issued a citation for failure to maintain a safe lookout.
