MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A teen shot outside a high school basketball game died late Sunday night, and the shooter is still on the run.

17-year-old Terrence Wilkins was at a basketball game at Central High School on Friday, Jan. 13 when police say he got into a fight with another teen and was killed. Wilkins was a student at Booker T. Washington High School.

A local store set up a donations jar to help the family bury the teen. The owner says the story is too familiar, another young life taken too soon.

Police haven't released details on the suspect yet, but residents from Wilkins' neighborhood say the shooter lived in the same area and knew him.

This is horrible, but I am becoming desensitized to information like this coming out of Memphis. Blaming video games, rap music, movies, whitey; it's all a cop out. The individuals who tolerate and promote violence in their community need to be held accountable. As long as folks keep placing the blame where it is not due, these problems will continue to get worse. People blame Memphis city schools, racism, and any thing else that is not the source of the actual problem. The problem is the punishments are not strict enough for these animals and they are often protected by their peers.
