MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis police are looking to identify a suspected purse thief who targets women at gas stations.
Officers were called to the Love's Truck Stop at 3371 Lamar Avenue around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4. A woman told police she was approached by an unknown man who said she needed air in her tires; when she got out of her car to look the man grabbed her purse and ran away.
The victim's stolen credit card was used nearby by the person police believe is responsible for this theft and several other similar burglaries where female victims had their purses stolen at gas stations. The suspect is described as a black male around 20-25 years old, 5'6"-5'8", 175 pounds, medium complexion, and last seen wearing dark pants and an Aeropostale logo t-shirt. The suspect was seen driving a 1999-2001 black Pontiac Grand Am.
