INDEPENDENCE, MS (abc24.com) - Law enforcement in north Mississippi is investigating a rash of church burglaries in the northeast part of Tate County, with similar crimes reported in neighboring Marshall County.

According to Tate Co. Sheriff's Chief Investigator, Bill Ellis, four churches near Independence in the northeast part of the county have been burglarized in recent weeks.

The suspects are targeting small, rural churches without surveillance, breaking in late at night and taking electronics. Because of this, there are no suspect or vehicle descriptions thus far.

Five similar burglaries have been reported in Marshall County, and investigators in both counties are looking to see if they are connected.

Anyone with information on these burglaries is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 1-800-729-2169.
