MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Jury selection got underway Tuesday in the trial of a former Memphis police officer accused of pointing a gun at a woman during an argument in traffic.
Amy Dunn is charged with aggravated assault in the incident. She was fired from the department last August.
Prosecutors representing Phyllis Davis allege Dunn, then a Memphis police officer, pointed a gun at her after the two got into an argument as they were driving in the area of Sycamore View and Macon in June 2011.
Dunn and her lawyer, Leslie Ballin, say their defense is simple. "We have a different side of it… she maintains her innocence," Ballin said. He expects the trial to last two to three days.
"The state is ready and the defense is certainly ready; it's been a long time she's been facing these false allegations."
False or not, they are allegations Dunn has to answer.
"When you're accused of something, hire a lawyer; when you're accused of something you didn't do you better hire a good lawyer. I'm going to try to be that good lawyer for Amy."
If convicted of aggravated assault, Dunn faces a minimum of three years in prison.
