TUNICA COUNTY, MS (abc24.com) - For the second time in a week, someone was shot and killed while driving on a Mississippi highway.
Mississippi resident Damon Austin told abc24.com, "I'm a little surprised because it's kind of quiet down here." That quiet he enjoys has been broken by gunshots in the middle of the night twice this week.
The first shooting happened Tuesday, May 8, on I-55 in Panola County. 74-year-old Thomas Schlender from Nebraska was killed on I-55 while driving from Nebraska to Florida to visit relatives.
Then Friday morning, May 11, a woman was shot and killed along Highway 713 in Robinsonville in Tunica County.
Tunica resident James Cole said, "Somebody needs to be looking at something, somewhere."
Police aren't saying if the two shootings are related. The Mississippi Highway Patrol hasn't released any information on the woman found dead. As for Schlender's killing, there are still no suspects and no motive.
