MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com)--The search for the next head football coach at the University of Memphis may be over.

abc24.com has learned the U of M has offered the job to Justin Fuente, the co-offensive coordinator at TCU.

Fuente joined the Horned Frogs in 2007 as a running backs coach and was promoted to co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2009.

Fuente played quarterback for Oklahoma in 1996 and 1997 before transferring to Murray State. In 1999 he was named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

Fuente will replace Larry Porter, who was fired after two seasons in which the Tigers went 3-21.

University of Memphis officials plan to make the announcement at a news conference Thursday.
