LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP, abc24.com) - The U.S. Postal Service says it will close mail processing centers in Hot Springs and Jonesboro and transfer the operations to facilities in Little Rock and Memphis.

The postal service made the announcement Thursday. Chief Operating Officer Megan Brennan says consolidating postal operations is necessary to keep the postal service afloat.

The postal service says it's experienced a 25 percent decline in first-class mail since 2006.

The postal service hasn't set a date for the closures yet. The Hot Springs Customer Service Mail Processing Center will shut down, switching operations to a Little Rock center. In Jonesboro, mail handled at the processing center will transfer to a center in Memphis.
