MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The suspect in a Wednesday afternoon shooting in midtown Memphis is also facing drug charges after he admitted to being his victim's pot dealer.
Memphis police were called to a shooting on the 1100-block of Peabody around noon on Wednesday, September 26. When they arrived, officers found a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds. According to the police affidavit, the victim pointed to a man nearby and stated "There is the guy that shot me. He shot me in the face five times." The victim was transported to The MED in critical condition.
Police detained the person pointed out by the victim, 18-year-old Marquail Driver. Officers found a baggie of crack cocaine on Driver and took him into custody. Under questioning, Driver admitted to the shooting and said he had been selling marijuana to the victim for three years. After obtaining a search warrant of Driver's apartment, police found 6 baggies of marijuana, scales, and other drug paraphernalia, as well as .22 caliber ammunition.
Marquail Driver is charged with Especially Aggravated Robbery, Employment of a Firearm, and Manufacturing/Delivering/Selling Marijuana. He was booked at the Shelby County Jail on $250,000 bond.
