Waiting for Mayor Wharton's MPD Oversight Committee

Mayor A C Wharton is still weeks away from coming up with a plan to deal with the ongoing problems with the Memphis Police Department. One month ago the mayor said he was going to put a committee together to look into all the complaints, arrests and firings of police officers. It's been three and a half weeks since the mayor said he'd have the names in a couple of days, and he's still not ready.

Rather that having to form an "committee" to watch over them, they need to get RID of some of the management/rank. This is where the problem lies. I agree that they should be gone after 2 strikes; AND not be permitted to work in this field anywhere else, ever again.

an oversight committee, more wasted tax dollars, i know MPD officers are backed by unions and civil service but after 2 strikes they should be gone. if they do something so stupid to mess up the good job they have then so be it. i understand also that mpd supervisors must go through procedures before firing, hiring, etc.. some of the supervisors i have seen should not be in their position. when they are dealing dope, running the hos, they need to be fired. they fired them, move on, they dont need a committee to tell them how to fire people.waste of money
