DESOTO COUNTY, MS (abc24.com) - What happened to winter? The weather has been anything but normal lately. It's been an easy winter for people all over the Mid-South. DeSoto County is getting an extra benefit.
"It doesn't seem like it's winter," laughs Joslyn Askew.
"I think the temperatures out here just put you in a better mood," adds Delandus Woods.
"Oh, yea, yea, this is great," says Randy Hall.
DeSoto County drivers are loving the warm weather.
"I don't like driving in snow or anything," says Askew. "Part of the reason I'm out now is because the weather's so beautiful."
"I love this weather," Lashaunda Falkner says. "It's hot outside. I'm glad that we haven't had any cold, stormy weather where it's ice on the roads."
DeSoto County's road manager Russell Dorris feels the same.
"We're just moving right along and enjoying the warm weather," Dorris tells abc24.com.
Apart from a few snowflakes early on, you almost wouldn't know it's winter.
"No ice, no snow, no nothing," says Hall.
"The freeze/thaw has not been as big a problem this year as it has been earlier winters," Dorris says. "We're very grateful for that."
That's because it means less damage to the county's 850 miles of roads and fewer repairs needed.
"If you don't have that constant freeze/thaw and expansion and contraction, it certainly helps the roads," he says.
And it helps the county's budget.
"Maybe that will save some tax payer money," laughs Woods.
