WEST MEMPHIS, AR (abc24.com) - A federal jury has convicted a West Memphis police officer for violating the civil rights of a suspect.
Officer Scott McCall choked the suspect, who was already handcuffed, in June 2010 while at police headquarters. Two police department dispatchers had to physically remove McCall.
The department's Director of Internal Affairs is accused of three counts of witness tampering in the same incident.
McCall faces up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine.
The Director of Internal Affairs for the West Memphis Police Department, 56-year-old Lester Ditto, was also charged with three counts of witness tampering for his role in the same incident.
Ditto is scheduled to go to trial later this year.
