MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A woman trying to purchase a vehicle at a Memphis dealership was arrested for forging a paycheck stub in order to qualify for an auto loan.

Shelby County Sheriff's detectives received a complaint from Guardian Community Living that a woman had forged a paycheck stub from their business in order to get a car loan from two different creditors. Human Resources for Gaurdian confirmed that the applicant, 28-year-old Jenee Griffin, had never worked for the company.

The dealership, City Auto, was notified of the forgery. They contacted Griffin, who was driving the car after leaving a $1,000 deposit. She was told the loan had not been approved, and she needed to return the vehicle and pick up her refunded deposit.

When Griffin returned to City Auto on November 27, deputies were on the scene to take her into custody.

Jenee Griffin is charged with Criminal Simulation and Forgery. She was booked at the Shelby County Jail on $3,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court December 5.
