FORREST CITY, AR (abc24.com) - The St. Francis County Sheriff's Department began the search around 1:00 p.m. for 24 year-old police office Nick Swink near Forrest City, Arkansas, that's about one hour west from Memphis. The Wynne police officer is believed to have fallen in the St. Francis River.
Around 5:30 p.m. the search was declared a recovery mission. It has been over 18 hours since Officer Swink first went missing.
Investigators say the 24 year old Wynne police officer was off duty when he went missing. They say he was night fishing with some friends near the Saint Francis River when somehow he fell over a bridge and into the water.
“I’ve been looking for the guy all day,” said a volunteer searcher Joe Labord.” The water is up and got a lot of debris coming down so it's hard to say where he's at."
Volunteers, family members, and multiple law enforcement agencies have been looking for the 24 year old since late Friday night. Details are still sketchy about how Officer Swink fell into the river.
"It's all bad but we'll keep looking hopefully we'll find him,” said Labord.
Investigators say the recovery mission will resume Sunday morning.
