WAVERLY, Tenn. (AP) - Three people in Humphreys County are dead in a house fire, and foul play is suspected.

State Fire Marshal's Office spokesman Christopher Garrett said there were two house fires early Wednesday and both homes belonged to Carl and Elaine Hewitt. Three bodies were found in one of the houses. They have not yet been identified, but investigators have determined that all the vehicles belonging to the couple were at the home.

WSMV-TV reports that Elaine Hewitt is a principal at Erin Elementary School in Houston County.

Director of Schools Cathy Harvey released a statement on Wednesday saying the district is aware of the fire and in touch with law enforcement. The statement says the school district will continue to ensure the safety of its students.
