MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a Trenton man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for leading a multi-state marijuana distribution ring.

The U.S. attorney's office for West Tennessee said Tuesday that Stephen Ray Cook was sentenced Friday in federal court in Memphis.

Cook was indicted in May 2011 on charges of conspiracy to possess and sell marijuana and methamphetamine.

He pleaded guilty to the marijuana charge in January 2012. The meth charge was dropped.

Prosecutors say Cook recruited family members and acquaintances to help him traffic marijuana from Mexico to Memphis, Chicago, Atlanta and other cities.
