GALLATIN, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee jury has convicted a 26-year-old suburban Nashville woman accused of smothering her newborn twins.

The jury deliberated about two hours Tuesday in the case of Lindsey Lowe of Hendersonville. Lowe was immediately sentenced to life in prison.

After the sentence was announced, Lowe turned around and mouthed to family in the courtroom that she was OK.

Lowe told police she smothered her twin boys after giving birth in the bathroom of her parent's home on Sept. 12, 2011.

Lowe was engaged at the time, but the twins were conceived during an affair with another man. The prosecution argued the babies would interfere with her plans to marry.

The defense said Lowe wanted to block out the idea of being pregnant and said she didn't even know she was giving birth until one of the babies came out in the toilet.
