MARTIN, Tenn. (AP) - The University of Tennessee at Martin hosts its 13th annual civil rights conference this week.

Events are scheduled all week, but the keynote address takes place on Thursday. It will be delivered by Diane Nash, one of the leaders of the sit ins and marches that led to the desegregation of Nashville's lunch counters.

According to a news release from the university, Martin's event is one of only two civil rights conferences sponsored yearly by an American public university.

This year's theme is The Civil Rights Movement and Social Change in the 21st Century. It looks to draw inspiration for today's social justice struggles from of one of America's great social movements of the past.

Most events are free and open to the public. More information is available at www.utm.edu/organizations/civilrights .
