Recap: Old Dominion vs. Mercer
Norfolk, VA (Sports Network) - Justin Cecil paced all scorers with 22 points as the Mercer Bears pulled off a second half comeback against the Old Dominion Monarchs to win 79-73 in the quarterfinals of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament at Constant Convocation Center.
Langston Hall scored 13 points and Jakob Gollon tallied a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds for Mercer (25-11). Daniel Coursey added 10 points for the Bears, who will face Fairfield in the CIT semifinals.
For ODU (22-14), Marquel De Lancey and Donte Hill tallied 14 points each, Dimitri Batten netted 13, Nick Wright poured in 12, and Chris Cooper chipped in 11.
The Monarchs got out to a 34-29 lead at halftime behind 45.5 percent field goal shooting, including an impressive 6-of-9 from three-point range.
ODU was in front by as many as 11 in the second half, but the Bears chipped away at the lead until a Travis Smith three-pointer with 1:55 remaining gave them a 70-68 advantage. Mercer sealed the victory down the stretch by draining two more field goals and shooting 5-of-6 from the free-throw line in the final 63 seconds.
Mercer connected on all but one of its 15 free-throw attempts on the evening, while ODU went just 14-of-22 from the stripe.
